GridFil Street Lights
The Grid-Tied Solar Feed-In LED (GridFIL™) Streetlight is a novel concept for renewable energy and energy efficiency combining the advantages of highly efficient LED lighting and solar energy generation.
Overall Objectives
- Promote efficient and net-positive energy lighting (i.e. not utilizing energy, but generating energy) for streetlights conforming to appropriate lighting and solar energy standards.
- Offer a cleaner and more viable solution compared to conventional solar streetlights.
- Utilize the already existing/ available streetlight infrastructure to reduce consumption and generate clean energy.
- Offset the net common use electricity consumption, and consequently, the cost incurred by the Owner.
- Establish a sense of awareness and confidence among citizens towards solar/ renewable energy.
- Take advantage of high solar irradiation in India and generate clean energy.
- Pioneer the trend and encourage distributed generation with lighting efficiency in India.
During daytime:
- Photovoltaic (PV) module:
- Mounted on streetlight.
- Micro-inverter:
- Connected to the PV module and mounted on the streetlight.
- Converts DC from PV module to AC and feeds into the grid during daytime.
- Thus, the streetlight acts as a distributed energy generation system during daytime.
At night:
- The LED light is powered directly from the grid similar to a conventional LED light.
- LED lights can further be controlled individually for more efficient utilization.
